The challenge

Argentina in general and the province of Mendoza in particular are going through a difficult situation marked by a severe social crisis.

According to data released by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC), the percentage of people living below the poverty line rose to 44.6%.

In addition, the local context has other problems linked to water scarcity and the development of informal urban areas that justify undertaking triple-impact projects with economic and environmental impact.

The municipality of Mendoza City seeks to develop innovative and sustainable public policies that include the different actors with whom it shares the social and territorial fabric in order to reduce poverty and reverse the effects of the pandemic, generating employment and personal development opportunities for different populations groups.

The project

The proposal is to create an agro-ecological hydroponic crop factory self-managed by women in situations of social and economic vulnerability, to generate a fruit and vegetable production system that provides alternative employment and commercial alternative for vulnerable women in the La Favorita neighborhood conglomerate.

To do so, the project will finance the construction of the necessary circuit to make the hydroponic cultivation system operational and will generate networks for the commercialization of the products, in collaboration with different actors linked to this type of production, such as local entrepreneurs, companies and educational institutions
